Pa'lante
Project Description
The teams over at Virtue and HBO Max reached out to me to help launch their new brand for the Latinx community, HBO Max Palante. They wanted to celebrate it by inviting several Latinx creatives from all over the US to create an animation celebrating our communities. Together we weaved a beautiful Tapiz and additional social assets.

styleframes
Using some rough VO script as a foundation, I was asked to build a few styleframes along with some rough storyboards to help the team assign segments of the tapiz.
These were a few of those frames. I really wanted to do something unlike the other artists on the team who were mostly illustrators in a flat style. I went with dimensional 3D mixed with vibrant 2D elements.
Given a few last minute curveballs to implement typography over image, I explored a few of those options while providing a few reference elements.
Pueblo
Mi Pueblito was built from the corpse of my senior thesis over 8 years ago. I pulled and reworked all the elements to use them creatively here. I explored several different orientations and color ways to make this section feel unique and vibrant.
Using C4D and Redshift, I worked in ACES which really helped give this the extreme color vibrancy you see below. While still being flexible and quick to render.
The fast paced transitions were planned from the very start through my storyboards. I wanted to really go through lots of different spaces in a very stylized way adding in some smears and motion blurs for good measure.
Puzzle Block
This section changed alot with Client feedback. I was asked to include more and more characters as a way to feed more community aspects into the piece. With a tight timeline, I designed a dozen different characters and used some basic rigging along with BendyLimbs to get them all rigged in less than a day total. It was a massive challenge to do so much on such a small timeline.
Instagram vecindad
The team at Virtue also wanted to build this beautiful tapiz into an actual quilt. They planned out this grid for their Instagram using different building facades that are also connected together. This lead to a really unique take on the grid and gave a beautiful start to the brand.
